The Mirror Pool: Sights And Insights – Reclaiming The Isle

by Seer Matron Elisa In the Avalonian Cycle of Revealing, each of the Goddesses has domain over one or more of the full moons of the yearly cycle. The Yearly Cycle always begins with the holy day of Calan Gaeaf and Ceridwen, and we celebrate the first four moons of the year with Her. This coming full moon, February 16, marks the last of Ceridwen’s four moons. However, her “time” will continue until Blodeuwedd’s first moon on March 18. Therefore, Ceridwen’s time in this 2021-22 cycle runs from November 19, 2021, through March 18, 2022. (Forgive me if this feels like too much detail; I promise you, the deeper into…

The Mirror Pool: Sights and Insights – Calling The Barge

by Seer Matron Elisa Greetings as we look ahead to 2022, Sisters! Although the Avalonian new year, having begun at Calan Gaeaf, is well underway, it is impossible not to acknowledge that January is, for most of the world, the month that heralds fresh starts and the turning of the page on the past and looking forward to the calendar year ahead. We are now in the third moon in the Avalonian Cycle of Revealing, the Moon of Transformation. I personally love that this moon typically falls in January since January already lends itself to being a time for new beginnings. This moon, in this month, also gives us the…

The Mirror Pool: Sights And Insights – Moon Of Initiation

by Seer Matron Elisa I could hardly believe my eyes when I turned over the card I had chosen as the focus for this article: Moon 1, Moon of Initiation! For those unfamiliar with, or new, to the Avalonian Cycle of Revealing, Moon One marks the start of our yearly Cycle which begins on Calan Gaef. Perfect timing! I confess that I actually considered drawing a second card because I thought, “Oh, no one is going to believe I randomly chose this card!” But instead, I reached for my Mythic Moons of Avalon book and, as if Goddess knew I needed a reminder that She is always guiding us, the…

    The Awen

By Joanna van der Hoeven The awen symbol is based on an original design by the 18th-19th century Druid revivalist, Iolo Morganwg. It consists of three lines falling to the right, centre and left. Modern Druidry incorporates the original source point of three dots, which can either be seen as points of light or drops from the cauldron of the goddess Ceridwen. The awen symbol represents, among other things, the triple nature of the Druid path, incorporating the paths of Bard, Ovate and Druid. It is not an ancient symbol, but a modern Druid symbol, used widely by Druids the world over, regardless of their opinion on Iolo and his work.…

    Cauldron of Cerridwen

Cauldron of Cerridwen by Jennifer R. Miller I am at ease in your velvety darkness that covers and heals me in places the light cannot reach, because I am much too weary now for all that blinding brightness. Under the supple, lustrous rays of the moon, I stare into the swirling black void of the cauldron that you stir and stir, seeing the eons pass behind and before me, giving myself, once again, to your magick of transformation. I have died so many times, so many lives, so many selves, eternally decaying and rebirthing, as the never-ending spiral pulls inward and spins outward. What shall we create this time, Dark…

    Great Mother, Mercurial Child

By Kate Brunner I am not a boy-mom.  As much as I wish I was, I am just not.  I gave birth to three wondrous little things; first, a girl and then later, boy-girl twins.  I have a son, but even after seven years of shared life, he remains, in so many ways, a complete mystery to me. With my eldest, I could feel she was a girl with absolute certainty from the moment we created her.  She had a name very early on in our gestation and everything about a girl child guiding me across the initiatory threshold of motherhood felt perfect and holy to me.  She was born…
